Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) is an inspection approach for plant equipment using risk analysis. A cost effective alternative to traditional inspection, RBI offers safer results and more reliable plant operations while resources are controlled.
RBI uses risk ranking of equipment as basis for inspection. It generates information on the types of damage that may be expected of the plant equipment, the appropriate inspection techniques to be used, where to look for the potential damage, and how often inspections should take place.
With RBI, SGS Industrial Services offer clients the opportunity to focus their inspection and maintenance resources on plant items/parts that contain the highest risks. Our experts analyze available data, such as historical inspection and maintenance records. They compared this with known industry facts and determine a risk rating for the assets under investigation. Advanced computer software allows us to further develop a detailed inspection and maintenance plan that suits any specific situation.
A standard SGS Risk-Based Inspection project:
- Specify and prioritize the risk ranking level of existing equipment and determine the respective risk acceptance level based on industrial standard or customer’s requirement.
- Assessment of process operations that will impact production, operation, material integrity and degradation rates.
- Review technical specifications and materials of construction and provide gap-analysis, recommendations and next turn-around priorities.
- Identify the operational risks associated with the equipments through material degradation (utilizing known industry standards such as API 580 and API 581, API 579), determine the remaining life time and advise the appropriate inspection intervals.
- Specify the necessary inspection and maintenance tasks which shall be balanced out according to varying level of the equipment operational risks.
Our additional services from the asset integrity management package help our clients manage the maintenance and assure integrity of their assets. These reliability services include defining remaining useful life of assets, root cause failure analysis, reliability management and Fit-For-Purpose Assessment.
