Non - Destructive Testing

When preventive maintenance is a critical issue on cost and safety for technical plants and facilities, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is the right service to get.

NDT also called non-destructive examination (NDE) and non-destructive inspection (NDI), is a testing method that does not destroy the test object. NDT is vital for constructing and maintaining all types of components and structures. It includes several methods of examining materials and connections which identify and quantify defects and degradations.

Industrial components like aircraft skins, pipelines or pressure vessels are subject to erosion, corrosion and/or vibration during their service life and therefore need regular non-destructive tests to detect damage that may be difficult or expensive to find by common methods.

With the knowledge and inspection experience of SGS, NDT services provide you added quality, cost reduction, business security and improved safety for both existing and new installations.

NDT is divided into various methods, each based on a particular scientific principle. These techniques, due to each specific nature, may be effective to certain applications but may be of little or no value at all in other applications. Therefore, choosing the right method and technique is an important part of the performance of NDT.

Conventional Testing Methods

Special Examinations

Whether it is in fabrication, pipe manufacturing, pipeline or plant construction, chemical or petrochemical plant, shipyard or offshore industry, in conventional and nuclear power plant – our non-destructive and mechanical inspections provide quality assurance and process safety. SGS R&D, special testing and consulting teams are at your disposal for your complex test requirements. Our variety of equipment and personnel offers technically and financially suitable methods, whether traditional or more specialized examination techniques.

We follow a philosophy where education and training of our NDToperators is our top priority. The combination of experienced operators with all necessary qualifications and state-of-the-art technology makes SGS a reliable and valuable NDT partner in all major industrial countries around the world.

Accreditations
SGS is in possession of the SCC** (Safety Certificate Contractors) for work in chemical and petrochemical plants and is qualified according to KTA 1401 for operation in nuclear facilities. SGS mechanical test laboratories are accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and as inspection body TYPE A according to DIN EN 45004.

Sharing Knowledge
SGS offers relevant NDT Training Courses and provides workshops (at your company location, if requested). Experienced instructors share knowledge that complies with guidelines and local and international NDT / NDE standards, such as SNT TC1A and EN 473.
